Hario V60 Coffee Recipe

Equipment:
  • Hario V60 dripper
  • Hario paper filter
  • Coffee grinder
  • Kettle
  • Scale
  • Timer
  • Coffee beans (medium to medium-coarse grind)

Ingredients:

  • Coffee beans: 30 grams (about 2 tablespoons)
  • Water: 500 grams (about 17 ounces)

Instructions:

  • Preheat: Boil your water and let it cool slightly to around 200°F (93°C). Preheat the V60 by placing it on your mug or server and pouring hot water through the filter. This step helps eliminate any paper taste and warms up the equipment. Discard the rinse water.
  • Prepare the Filter: Place a Hario paper filter into the V60 dripper. Make sure the side with the seam is facing the spout.
  • Grind Coffee: Grind your coffee beans to a medium to medium-coarse consistency, similar to sea salt. This helps ensure even extraction and flavor.
  • Add Coffee: Place the V60 on your scale and add 30 grams of coffee grounds into the filter.
  • Bloom: Start your timer and pour approximately 60 grams of hot water evenly over the coffee grounds, ensuring all the grounds are saturated. Allow the coffee to bloom for 30 to 45 seconds. This initial pour helps release carbon dioxide and enhances flavor extraction.
  • Brew: Slowly pour the remaining 440 grams of hot water in a circular motion, starting from the center and spiraling outwards. Maintain a steady pour to ensure an even extraction. Aim to complete this within 3 to 4 minutes.
  • Finish: Once the water has fully drained through the coffee grounds, remove the V60 from your mug or server. Give the coffee a gentle swirl to mix and ensure a balanced flavor.
  • Serve: Pour the coffee into your cup and enjoy the rich, nuanced flavors of your brew!
